Amber Update

Well, today is Tuesday, March 22nd and Amber has been out of the hospital now for over 1 week and no major issues.  She came home and needed two days bedrest (which she hated)  then went back to school and work last Wednesday.  No issues at school but after being at work for 1 hour, called dad and said she experienced 4 petit mal seizures.  Dad told her to let her boss know and decided what she wanted to do.  She stuck it out and came home to sleep.  Since Thursday, she has been going to school, work and out and hasn't experienced any seizures.  She is still very tired which is due to the medicine but I'm so grateful to God that this new medicine seems to be doing the job.  Let's keep our prayers going!

What Does The Future Hold

Does anyone really know what the future holds for them.  We all start out with a dream of how we want our life to be.  Then we step into the real world and find out that it's not always as easy as a dream.  There is hard work and many, many choices to make.  Sometimes we make our dreams a reality and sometimes we can almost reach it and sometimes we don't even come close.

For me, I knew what I wanted early on and I have been living that dream for a while now.  However, sometimes there are unexpected potholes in the road that prevent us from living that smooth ride.  For us, it's happened twice now.  Once when Robert lost his job a few years ago and now again.  I worried alot the last time and got very frustrated.  This time however, I  feel worry is useless.  It takes time away from what's really important, my kids.  When I see my son playing carefree and laughing at silly things, I remember that now is what really matters.  Not what happened yesterday or what could happen tomorrow.  Now is all I have and I want to enjoy it instead of waste it.

I know that bills are coming in and there is little income but for this moment, this excact moment in time, my life is good because I have my family and I want to be present because I don't know what tomorrow will bring.

Felipe Family Update

Hi all,  just an update on what's going on here.  Amber was admitted Wednesday to the hospital and on Thursday, she reported that she had a small Petit Mal seizure.  It was documented and last night the doctor came in to talk to us.  So far, he is trying to control the seizures with medication.  He has changed her again to Dilantin.  He said there are many girls her age who suddenly start having an increase in seizures and they don't know why.  It could be hormones they don't know.  Anyway, he said he will try different medications until they find one that works.  If nothing works, then they will look at possibly inserting a pacemaker into the vein(?) or surgery of the brain.  At this point he does not feel comfortable doing either one which is why he wants to try the different medications to see if that will work.  She is going to be in through the week-end possibly being released Sunday or Monday.  The new medication was started today and as I said previously, she is hooked up to a monitor so if she has a seizure, they will know.

Robert is now looking for work and will start to really do the job search the beginning of the week.  We really need for him to find a job and perhaps getting out of the education field is what he needs to do.  Please keep that in your prayers as well.

On a good note, I got my suburban back, new transmission and all, and it didn't cost a dime.   The extended warranty covered the entire cost.

That's about it for now.  Will keep posting updates as they devleop.

We Shall Overcome

We shall overcome all the obstacles in the road that are leading us to our destination.  Let me start by saying that as I write this, I feel very confident that everything will work out for the good.

So we have been having some medical issues with Amber and as of last night, she is back in the hospital.  She was admitted Feb. 27th for 48 hour observation while the doctors changed her medication.  They wanted to have her in for observation to make sure the medicine didn't cause seizures.  Well, 48 hours passed and no seizures so she was released on Tuesday March 1st.  She went to school on Wednesday and Thursday we celebrated her brother's birthday by going out to breakfast and then she went to school.  Later that night, we had family over for pizza and cake.  I thought things were well until she informed me that after everyone had gone, she experiened 2 Petit Mal seizures.  We called the doctor and he told us to put her back on one of the medications he had taken her off of as well as continuing  the new medication.  Friday, she went in for lab work and her levels were at 9.5 which is very good.  The normal range is 4-10 so the medication was well within it's range.  Over the course of the week-end she experienced more Petit Mal seizures.  Monday she went to school and work and after getting home experienced 3 Petit Mals within a 90 minute period.  Again, we called the doctor on  Tuesday and he said he was going to change medication again and would call us Wednesday to let us know what the new one would be.  Yesterday she experienced 4 Petit Mal seizure while at school and came home and went to bed.  She needed to be at work at 5:30pm so I told her to sleep until it was time to go.  About 3:30 I left to pick up Robert from work and go to Alyssa's game.  Robert left the game at 4:45 to get Amber and take her to work and when he got home she was in the bathroom.  After awhile of her being there he knocked on the door and got no response.  I was on the phone with him and told him to continue trying to talk to her and when she finally responded, he said she sounded funny.  He asked if he could come in and she said no, she was using the bathroom so he waited.  After a few minutes, she came out and he said she looked confused and tired.  She went to her room to lay down and said her body felt funny.  He noticed her brush and some other things on the bathroom floor so he called the doctor to let him know that she had appeared to have a larger seizure.  I came home and went in to talk to her and it was obvious she had had a seizure.  We took her to emergency and they admitted her last night.  Her medicine levels are low (4) and I told the doctor she has taken her medicine at the correct time every dose because I have made sure.  I don't know why the levels would be low.  They have her hooked up to a monitor and we will talk to the doctor later today to see what the plan is.

Robert also go the news yesterday that he was being laid off as of yesterday.  The place he was working at is having major budgetary problems and he was one of the supervisors being let go.  Ugh, bad timing but it is what it is.  I will not let that bring me down.  I believe that God knows what he does and why he does it and although we don't understand, we have to have faith and trust.  I do not know what the future holds for us but I do know that as long as we are all together we will survive.

On a good note, my suburban went back into the shop Monday.  It was in last week for transmission issues and they thought the problem was a software issue and thought they had fixed it.  As soon as I got it off the freeway, I called them and told them it wasn't fixed.  I took it back Monday and they said they would have to look at it to pinpoint the problem then I had to authorize a $1500 amount to have the transmission taken out and apart, then a representative from the extended warranty company had to determine if the repair was something they were going to cover.  If it was great but if it wasn't then I had to pay the $1500 for the removal of the transmission and decide if I wanted it fixed which could be another $2,000-$3,000 to repair.  Well the guy from the dealer called this morning and said the whole transmission needs to be replaced and the extended warranty will cover the whole repair.  WooHoo!!!!!  So happy to hear that.  God is definatley good:)

Please keep our family in your prayers!!  I know that things will get better for us and I can't wait!
